History
Cataract surgery has gone through tremendous refinement since it was first performed in some capacity around 1000 BC. Even as recently as 15 years ago, cataract surgery was an invasive surgical procedure requiring a large incision, many stitches, prolonged use of medicine, and a slow return to good vision.

At New York Laser Eye, we employ cutting-edge cataract technology and techniques to offer the absolute safest and least invasive procedure possible. The surgery we perform today is even more advanced than ours of a few years ago. Our goal is to have our patients return to excellent vision and back to their daily activities – without restrictions – as soon as possible. In some cases, patients have even returned to work the same day of their surgery!

The Cutting-Edge
What makes all this possible is a combination of new technology and techniques. Here is a sampling of how the latest innovations we use at every step of the surgery:

In most cases, Dr. Raviv can avoid an anesthetic injection behind the eye and perform the surgery less invasively without pain, using "topical" anesthesia (just an eye drop). This completely removes the risk of a needle injection and also allows for extremely rapid visual recovery.
The incision is the latest and smallest "clear cornea" type, which allows rapid healing without stitches and minimal need for eye patching. As with any surgery, the smaller the incision (in this case it is less than 1/3 of a centimeter) the safer and faster the recovery.
The cataract is removed using phacoemulsification (an advanced minitiaturized ultrasound probe) in a matter of minutes.
Finally a customized lens implant is placed using an advanced lens-cartridge injector system. Dr. Spitzer and Dr. Raviv have access to, and employ a wide array of the newest intra-ocular lens implants to carefully select the implant which is right for you.
